But how much of the future should they sacrifice? They shouldn't sell everything. |

Deep stuff from the captain. |

What Holland is known for his talents of making big trades to get exactly what the Wings need that isn't just depth at the deadline - dcz28
well neither of those guys would be good for us anyway |

A 23 year old power forward and a 23 year old #1 defenseman...yeah why would the Wings need that. Not like Holland hasn't replaced those since Shanahan and Lidstrom left...oh wait he hasn't. |

Well honestly I think Kane is massively overrated but seriously blowing up half our team to get OEL? How good is that? It's not worth it for 1 guy. They're going to want a massive overpayment x3. Try Larkin mantha tatar and two firsts oh And add XO, I'm all about OEL too but seriously not worth what they would want. So no I stand by saying it isn't good for the wings. |

So you honestly think think the asking price for OEL is 3 top prospects, 2 #1 draft picks and a 30+ a year goal scorer? Is OEL Jeebus? |

I don't think it would take that much to get OEL. A very good package yes but not the Wings top scorer, 3 of their top prospects and two 1st round picks. Look at what Pronger was traded for a couple of times. A young roster player, a top prospect and picks is usually what guys get...sometimes they add another mid prospect or something to make it happen.
I don't want the Wings to trade good prospects for rentals or give up a huge package for a decent player with "potential" (hello Myers) but OEL is a 23 year old #1 defenseman and chances of trading for a guy like that are very rare to say the least. These guys don't hit the UFA market so the only way to get one is either to trade for one or draft one and the draft (unless you keep drafting in the top 10 or top 5) are a big crap shoot to get there too. Wings have a lot of good defensive prospects but none that are really projected to be what OEL already is.
I love watching prospects and seeing them reach their potential but not all of them will. Sometimes it is worth it to trade potential (prospects) for a proven player. The Wings are in a great position of having too many prospects that they can't all fit into their roster over the next few years so trading a couple for something they don't have on the team or in their system is something they can do. We are talking about a guy that could lead the defense for the next decade. Wings would improve now and the future which is the kind of deal that is worth giving up assets for instead of pissing them away on a rental or someone that doesn't improve the team that much now and likely won't have a future with the team in a couple of years. |

No but it probably would take tatar Larkin a 1st and a 2nd. Which I still don't want to do. |

I would look at that trade pretty seriously. If it was anyone but Larkin/Mantha I'd be sold. |

I would make that trade and even more if you could replace Tatar with Jurco.
I would do Jurco, Mantha/Larkin/Pulkkinen, 1st and 2nd round picks and would even add a defense prospect if need be. |

Way to start the game, Big E and (frank)ing MacKinnon. Two guys I wouldn't expect to ever scrap. |

Haha nice ... Just a side note that I've been thinking....as much crap as we have given Quincey, he has put together a solid season so far and the one thing I really like is he plays with a lot of grit that no one else on our D really does...gotta respect that.
Also P.P.S...it's sad to see helm no throw the body like before. I guess all those injuries make him a little tentative to be physical like he was before
P.P.P.S .... Real solid game by Mrazek tonight good to see! |

Quincey really has been solid. He takes the dumbass penalties still but outside of sitting in the box, he's been REALLY good for a 3rd defenseman.
I'm ok with Helm not being physical, he's scoring a lot more, his speed is ridiculous still, and he's a beast on the PK.
And so glad to see the shutout too. Was a solid game for the Wings, minus the first 30 minutes. |
